How do I choose a Muslim charity for my Zakat?

Pick a charity that (1) publicly states a Zakat policy, (2) is a registered charity with transparent public financials, and (3) works on a cause you care about. HalalWallet scores every charity 0–3 on these transparency signals - independently of any partnership - so you can compare and give with confidence. Your Zakat always reaches the charity in full.

  • 15 of 15 listed charities are Zakat-eligible
  • Every profile links to public financial filings - CRA T3010 for Canadian charities
  • We never take a cut of your Zakat - it reaches the charity in full

Our independence & how we're funded

HalalWallet lists charities on editorial merit. Some organizations may become marketing partners and are clearly labeled “Partner,” but partnership never affects a charity's transparency score or its position in the directory. Any partner fee is paid from a charity's own unrestricted marketing budget - never deducted from your Zakat or Sadaqah, which reaches the charity in full. See our scoring methodology and disclosures.

Frequently asked questions

How does HalalWallet rank Muslim charities?

We rank charities by an editorial transparency score (0–3) built from three independent signals: a public Sharia/Zakat policy, HalalWallet verification of a charity's registration and good standing, and an independent third-party rating. Ranking is never influenced by whether a charity pays us - partner charities are clearly labeled but earn no ranking advantage.

Are these charities Zakat-eligible?

Charities marked 'Zakat-eligible' accept Zakat and direct it to recipients who fall within the eight Quranic categories (asnaf). For 100%-Zakat-policy organizations, the full designated amount reaches eligible recipients. Always confirm a charity's current Zakat policy on its own site before giving.

Does HalalWallet take a cut of my Zakat?

No. Your Zakat goes directly to the charity in full - we never touch donor funds and never skim a percentage of Zakat. Where a charity is a paid partner, any fee is paid from that charity's own marketing budget, not from your donation, and the relationship is disclosed.

Where can I verify a charity's finances?

Canadian charity profiles link to the CRA List of Charities, where you can read each organization's annual T3010 filings - revenue, expenditures, and program spending. US-registered organizations link to their public financial records. We surface known concerns transparently rather than hiding them.

How do I calculate how much Zakat I owe?

Use the HalalWallet Zakat Calculator to work out 2.5% of your eligible wealth above the Nisab threshold, then choose a charity here to fulfill it. The calculator covers cash, stocks, crypto, gold, retirement accounts, and business assets.
