ShariaPortfolio Canada is an advisor-led shop that puts AAOIFI-screened portfolios inside the accounts Canadians already use: TFSA, RRSP, FHSA, RESP, RRIF, LIRA, and a taxable personal account. Advisors work in British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, and Quebec. Custody sits at Fidelity Clearing Canada. The firm launched in 2017 and says it is a licensed portfolio manager dedicated to Shariah-compliant investing.

The rare pieces are the IPP and PPP wrappers for incorporated professionals. Those are hard to find elsewhere in Canada in a halal book. Fees and minimums are not published. You get them in the first consultation. Start on the ShariaPortfolio provider page and the investing hub.

Where It Operates

Advisors serve British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, and Quebec. Service runs in English, French, and Arabic. There is a mobile app for accounts and portfolios.

Manzil investing accounts are available in every province and territory. If you live in Manitoba, the Atlantic, or the territories, Manzil is the managed-account path that already covers you. If you are in the four ShariaPortfolio provinces and you want an advisor plus IPP or PPP, get both quotes.

Account Lineup

AccountWhat it is for
TFSATax-free growth. Fill this first for most people
RRSPTax-deductible contributions. Converts to a RRIF at the firm
FHSAFirst-home savings with the usual CRA room
RESPEducation savings plus CESG, in a screened portfolio
LIRALocked-in pension transfer from a former employer
RRIFDrawdown after the RRSP years
IPP / PPPIncorporated owners who need more room than an RRSP
Personal or jointTaxable overflow once registered room is used

Portfolios hold screened equities, sukuk, and Islamic funds. No conventional bonds, no preferred shares, and a longer exclusion list that also bars music, cinema, and broadcasting. You pick an active strategy or a passive mix. That is the published screen. It is stricter than a bare AAOIFI debt-ratio test.

IPP and PPP

An IPP is a corporation-sponsored defined-benefit pension for business owners and key employees. A PPP is a hybrid that can sit between an RRSP and an IPP. Both can hold more tax-deferred room than a regular RRSP for the right incorporated professional. Physicians, dentists, and consultants are the usual files.

Halal versions of those wrappers are scarce. If that is why you are here, say so in the first call. Setup cost and funding rules come from the firm, not from a blog. Do not copy an RRSP contribution limit onto an IPP.

How It Compares to Manzil

A ticker you pick yourself in a TFSADIY at Wealthsimple Trade or IBKR

Manzil's TFSA, RRSP, FHSA, LIRA, RRIF, and RESP are available across the country. ShariaPortfolio's edge here is the four-province advisor model and the IPP/PPP stack. It is not a cheaper MER. Fees are not on the product sheet. Manzil vs DIY covers the robo-versus-ticker choice. The remaining question in those four provinces is advisor versus advisor.

Transfers and Fees

Most people arrive with an existing TFSA or RRSP at a bank. Ask whether they will take an in-kind transfer of screened names, or whether everything gets sold and rebuilt. Selling inside a TFSA is not a tax event. Selling inside a non-registered account is. See in-kind RRSP and TFSA transfers before you sign.

Assets sit with Fidelity Clearing Canada, a CIRO member. That is custody, not a performance guarantee. CIPF coverage follows the custodian rules, the same way Manzil cites CIRO-member custody on its own accounts.

What to Get in Writing

  • Whether they will open the account type you actually need (TFSA vs IPP is not the same meeting)
  • Management fee, admin fee, and any account minimum
  • Active vs passive, and what sits in the income sleeve instead of bonds
  • Custody confirmation at Fidelity Clearing Canada
  • How zakat reporting works, if you want it

Frequently Asked Questions

Is ShariaPortfolio available in Canada?

Yes. Advisors serve British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, and Quebec. Custody is at Fidelity Clearing Canada.

Can I open a halal TFSA with them?

Yes in those four provinces. The portfolio is AAOIFI-screened. There is no published MER on the product sheet. Ask for the fee before you transfer.

I live in Nova Scotia. Can I use ShariaPortfolio?

Their published advisor map is BC, Alberta, Ontario, and Quebec. Use Manzil for managed accounts in Nova Scotia, or DIY if you will screen tickers.

What is the difference between their IPP and a Manzil RRSP?

An RRSP is a personal registered account with a CRA contribution limit. An IPP is a corporate pension with its own funding rules. If you are incorporated and maxing an RRSP, ask ShariaPortfolio whether an IPP or PPP is even on the table. Manzil's published RRSP is the nationwide personal account.

Do they also do mortgages?

This review is investing. For a house, start with Ijara CDC vs Manzil.
