Canadian investors use Zoya for a specific job: check a stock before you buy it in a brokerage you already have. Zoya screens TSX-listed stocks, shows the compliance ratios, and can watch a Wealthsimple or Questrade account. It is not a robo-advisor and it does not hold your money.
The free tier gives an AAOIFI pass or fail and one linked account. Zoya Pro is $14.99 US a month, or $119.99 a year, in the app stores. On the web, a pay-what-you-think checkout starts around $9 to $11 a month. ETF and mutual-fund screening covers US-listed funds only. See the provider page and the investing hub.

Who It Is For
Use Zoya if you pick stocks yourself and you want a scholar-guided verdict you can open and read. Skip it if your whole plan is one halal ETF and you never look at individual names.
- You hold Canadian stocks and want an AAOIFI-style check
- Your broker is Wealthsimple or Questrade
- You understand ETF screening on Zoya is for US-listed funds
- You will still place the trade at your own brokerage
What Canadians Actually Get
| Feature | In Canada |
|---|---|
| Stocks | TSX-listed names included |
| ETFs and mutual funds | US-listed funds only |
| Broker sync | Wealthsimple and Questrade, about twice a day |
| Trading | Order pass-through. Zoya is not the custodian |
| Default screen | AAOIFI: non-permissible revenue at or under 5 percent; debt and interest-bearing securities each under 30 percent of market cap |
| Free | Status verdicts, one linked account |
| Pro | $14.99 US a month or $119.99 a year. Full reports and other rulebooks |
Screening is guided by Sheikh Joe Bradford, an AAOIFI-certified advisor who previously worked at Al Rajhi Bank, and Sheikh Umer Khan. Pro adds S&P, MSCI, Dow Jones, and FTSE rulebooks, plus the segment-level revenue breakdown. Compliance alerts fire when a holding changes status.
Do Not Confuse It With a Portfolio
The full product story is in the Zoya app review. Musaffa is the other research app many Canadians compare, with letter grades and a Canada-specific stock count. Akinda shows AAOIFI ratio math and does not connect a brokerage. If you want the account managed for you, look at Manzil instead of a screener.
A Canadian Workflow That Stays Honest
Link the brokerage you actually use, Wealthsimple or Questrade, and let it sync for a couple of days before you trust the alerts. The free tier covers one account and a pass-or-fail status. If you hold several accounts, or you want the revenue breakdown behind a borderline stock, that is what Pro is for, at $14.99 US a month or $119.99 a year.
Do not use Zoya to bless a Canadian ETF. Fund screening on Zoya is US-listed only. A TSX stock is in scope. A Canadian ETF is not, even if every holding looks familiar. Check those funds with another method, or stick to stocks until you have a screen that covers the fund.
When a holding flips status, the alert is the point of paying. Sell, purify, or get a second opinion, but do not leave a failed name in a TFSA because the app was annoying. Zoya can pass an order through. It still does not custody the shares, and it will not manage the account if you would rather not pick stocks.
